My Dearest Diary,
Today is the first day of my writing life. I have always been a reader and therefore I absolutely love my job as assistant manager at the bookstore, but now I want to write. I don't write to be published, I write to express my own thoughts and feelings.
I found you, my little tapestry covered friend, at the store in a box of new items that May ordered from our regular supplier. She decided to expand with some trinkets and see if they sold. May is one of my bosses... her twin sister's name is June. Oh boy, there's a story for you. May and June were born a few minutes apart, one on May 31st and the other on June 1st. I don't know what their parents were thinking! Anyway, as soon as I saw you in that box, I just knew you had to be mine. At 28 years old, I'd like to start leaving an imprint of my life... I may have nothing else to leave behind...
Oh look, there's Molly my golden retriever mutt, standing at the door with her beloved red frisbee in her mouth. She looks at me in betrayal... this is the hour we usually go to the park to play. I hope she does not become jealous of you... I certainly do not want her trying to rip you apart like she did to that magazine I left on the table when I first adopted her. But she was young, then, and is now better trained... I hope!
Well, I think I will do my duty and take Molly out for a romp. I'm sure you and I will be very good friends, Dearest Diary. I expect we will talk often.
With great fondness,
Samantha
